parliament and the UK flag

There are a few important dates you might need to remember for this upcoming 2024 General Election….

Tuesday 18th June – Register to vote
Wednesday 19th June – apply for Postal Vote
Wednesday 26th June – apply for Proxy Vote
Wednesday 26th June – apply for a Voter Authority Certificate

Let’s go through them each, one by one…

Tuesday 18th June 2024 – Register to Vote

If you’ve not yet registered to vote, you can do so until Tuesday 18th June.

If you’re living in England, you must be:

  • 16 years old or over (although you can’t vote until you are 18)
  • a UK or Irish citizen
  • a qualifying Commonwealth citizen living in the UK
  • a qualifying EU citizen living in the UK

Wednesday 19th June 2024, 5pm – apply for a Postal Vote

You have until 5pm on this date to apply for a postal vote. You must already be registered to vote by 11.59pm on Tuesday 18th June in order to do this.

You can apply online for a postal vote or download a form.

Wednesday 26th June 2024, 5pm – apply for a Proxy Vote

You have until 5pm on this date to apply for a proxy vote. You must already be registered to vote by 11.59pm on Tuesday 18th June in order to do this.

A proxy vote is when you can’t get to the polling station yourself, and ask someone you trust to vote on your behalf.

Apply online for a proxy vote here.

Wednesday 26th June 2024, 5pm – apply for Voter ID

If you don’t have a photo ID, you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate. This is free, and needs to be applied for by 5pm on the 26th June.

You will need to be registered to vote before you apply for a Voter Authority Certificate.

But, when you register to vote, you’ll be asked whether you have photo ID to use or if you’d like to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate.

You can apply for a Certificate here.

Or, register to vote and apply for one at the same time.
