Snack Creation

Let’s get creative in the kitchen and make your own tasty go-to snacks!

What are we going to do in this activity?

In this activity you’ll create something yummy using simple ingredients. It’s a fun way to explore flavours and enjoy the results.

You don’t need to be a chef – just follow the steps here and have fun experimenting!

Before we start

Pick your ingredients

Choose easy-to-find items like fruit, crackers, cheese, or spreads like peanut butter or yoghurt

Wash your hands and set up a space

Make sure your hands are clean and you have a clear and clean space to work.

Lets get started

1

Choose your base

Start with something like crackers, a slice or bread or a bowl of yoghurt.

2

Add toppings

Layer on tasty ingredients – spread peanut butter, add slices of fruit, or sprinkle nuts or seeds.

Think about the colours and textures you’re using, along with what nutritional value the food may have – is it a protein for strength, fruits for vitamins, carbs for energy etc.

3

Get creative

Arrange the toppings to make a pattern, a face, a rainbow gradient, or a fun shape.

4

Taste test

Do one kind thing – send a nice message, compliment someone, help our around the house, offer to help a friend, smile to yourself lots…

5

Clean up

Tidy up your space when you’re done, so it’s ready for the next time.

You did it !

Snacks can be small and quick, healthy or treat-filled, so enjoy experimenting!

Challenge time

If you’ve completed this activity, and would like to challenge yourself further, you could create a snack inspired by a theme, like ‘rainbow colours’ or ‘your favourite animal’.

Experiment with new ingredients you haven’t tried before.

Or make a snack for someone else and see if they can guess the ingredients with a blindfold test.

What was your favourite part of making the snack?
How did your creation taste? Would you make it again?
Did you discover any new flavour combinations?

Keep creating new and varied snacks throughout the year, trying different textures, heats and combos for each season and holiday.
